FREDERICKSBURG FEATURES FINE ART

N ationally celebrated artists such as Daniel Gerhartz, Billy Schenk and Nancy Bush are shown in Fredericksburg, as well as widely collected Hill Country artists, such as Charles Beckendorf, Porfirio Salinas and G. Harvey. Fredericksburg is filled with Western and Native American art.

The galleries are located along Main Street, across other parts of downtown, and some a short drive from town.

The first Friday of each month is the Friday Art Walk, when many local galleries open for extended hours. Visitors have the opportunity to view art demonstrations and meet artists.

The following are galleries worth a visit for art enthusiasts: Charles Morin Fine Art

244 West Main | 830-307-3019 vintagetexaspaintings.com Morin’s gallery displays some of Texas’ most collected historical artists, with an emphasis on early Texas oil paintings. Morin has been a collector of vintage items since he was 14 years old.

Charles Morin Fine Art is a must-see for art and vintage collectors. Morin’s collection includes a display of pottery, Native American and European art.

Fredericksburg Art Guild

308 E. Austin | 830-997-4949 fredericksburgartguild.com The Fredericksburg Art Guild is a nonprofit organization with a mission to educate, encourage, promote and cultivate the creation of fine arts throughout the Texas Hill Country.

Many local artists are members of the guild. Each month, the Art Guild features an artist.

The gallery also features an all-member show during the year. Dates for their events can be found on the gallery website.

Vaudeville Gallery

230 East Main Street vaudeville-living.com In the heart of Fredericksburg is Vaudeville, a renovated three-story historic landmark with a third-floor gallery looking onto Main Street. The Hill Country artists presented work in contemporary and modern styles.

Vaudeville also has a bistro, gourmet market, wine club, supper club and a home and giftware showroom. Artisan jewelry and accessories are available on the main floor, featuring periodic designer trunk shows, including the likes of Vannesa Tosoni.

Good Art Company

218 West Main | 830-997-1111 goodartcompany.com Good Art Company opened its doors in 2008 and predominately shows contemporary Western and landscape paintings.

Located in the historic Schmidt-Dietz building, the gallery features a highly diverse collection of paintings in both traditional and modern styles.

The gallery also maintains an assortment of home décor pieces.

InSight Gallery

214 West Main | 830-997-9920 insightgallery.com InSight Gallery represents Texas artists — many of whom are based in the Hill Country. The gallery represents about 40 artists and regularly rotates the works in the showrooms.

With a variety of styles from still life to figure, InSight features an esteemed inventory of Western art from some of the industry’s top artists, such as Robert Pummill, Billy Schenck and Michael Ome Untiedt.

The historic building features 8,000 square feet of viewing space.

Larry Jackson

Purple Shack Makers Gallery is a worthy visit during a drive to Enchanted Rock, or for anyone seeking a unique art experience. Visitors are encouraged to call to set an appointment for viewing.

Fredericksburg Art Guild shows the works of many local artists, and every month chooses one to feature. During First Friday Art Walk, visitors have the opportunity to interact with many of the artists.
