A PARTY FOR PEACHES

E very summer, the small community of Stonewall fires up the rodeo arena lights and the live music to celebrate its annual Peach JAMboree, an event that will celebrate its 64th year in 2024. This year it will take place Thursday through Saturday, June 20-22.

The Stonewall Chamber of Commerce organizes the event at its grounds at 250 Peach Street in Stonewall. The JAMboree features two days of music, rodeo performances, a parade, contests, peach show and auction, queen’s contest, children’s activities and more.

Guests can get a sneak-peek of the weekend to come Thursday, June 20 with a free slack rodeo at 8 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. and food, beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Peach JAMboree activities get started on Friday night, June 21, with an 8 p.m. rodeo performance and live music to follow. The gates open at 6 p.m.

Activities continue on Saturday, June 22, with entries for the baking, preserves and salsa contests accepted from 8:30-10 a.m. There is no entry fee.

The parade begins at 10 a.m., and barbecue by the pound will go on sale at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church following the parade.

A variety of foods from local vendors will also be available on the JAMboree grounds, including peach ice cream and peach cobbler.

Afternoon activities include the Peach Patch area for kids, 42 dominoes tournament, goat roping, washer pitching tournament, peach show and auction, peach eating and pit spitting contest, mutton busting and more.

Girls competing for the title of Stonewall Peach Queen will take part in a pageant at 3 p.m.

The new queen will be crowned in a 7:30 p.m. ceremony just prior to the start of the 8 p.m. rodeo performance. Another live music performance will take place following the Saturday rodeo.

There will be mutton busting both nights beginning at 6:45 p.m., and during the rodeos.

Admission includes the rodeo and live music each night. Food, beer and wine will be for sale.
