FREDERICKSBURG HAS A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING FOR ON INDEPENDENCE DAY
FIREWORKS, PARADES, HORSE RACING AND MORE

E

very summer, Fredericksburg residents host events showcasing America on the Fourth of July with experiences across the city, including free parades, a fireworks show and pari-mutuel horse racing.

The annual July 4th Kiddie Parade will kick things off at Marktplatz at 8:30 a.m.

Families donning patriotic outfits parade decorated bicycles, wagons, toy cars and strollers through the downtown square.

Hosted by Fredericksburg’s VFW Post 7105 for more than 40 years, the annual event will award prizes for Best Dressed, Most American Pet, Best Decorated Bicycle, Youngest Female and Male and more.

“It’s a great event that seems to grow every year,” said Jim Bisson, commander of VFW Post 7105. “It’s amazing the number of parents, who have participated in the event are coming with their children and even grandparents, who were in the parade, are participating with their grandchildren.”

Following the kiddie parade will be the annual Fourth of July Parade. The family-friendly event will take place on Fredericksburg’s historic Main Street at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 4.

Fredericksburg Mayor Jeryl Hoover will commemorate the nation’s founding at Marktplatz, Thursday, July 4.

The day culminates with the Fourth of July fireworks. The 15-minute display will begin at 9:30 p.m. at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, 432 Lady Bird Drive.

In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks show will be postponed one week to July 11.

On Saturday and Sunday after July 4, the Gillespie County Fair Grounds will feature pari-mutuel horse racing, with races taking place on July 6-7.

At the annual Fourth of July Parade, antique tractor owners rode down Main Street, representing the Hill Country Antique Tractor & Engine Club Show. Locals and visitors lined the streets in droves for the festivities. The annual Kiddie Parade hosted by Fredericksburg’s VFW Post 7105 gives kids the opportunity to dress up in their patriotic outfits and show off their decorations in downtown Fredericksburg on July 4.
