BIG-TOWN ATTRACTIONS IN A SMALL-TOWN PACKAGE

BIG-TOWN ATTRACTIONS IN A SMALL-TOWN PACKAGE

W elcome to our fall/winter edition of GoFredericksburg. Our Fredericksburg Publishing Company has promoted this town and Gillespie County for the past 46 years, starting this magazine in 1978 as the first bed and breakfast operations opened, antique stores lined Main Street, Waylon and Willie sang a song about Luckenbach, and Volkssport was a key attraction.

It’s much different today. Gillespie County has become the fastest-growing wine region in the U.S. and the quality of its winery offerings have improved to compete with the best in the world. The culinary scene here has also improved and, as of this writing, several more top-notch dining attractions are in the works. But in addition to these fanciful offerings, things like a small-town fish fry that benefits local fire departments and old-time dance hall nights are part of what makes this town so special and connected.

This town continues to amaze and attract, through all the economic changes, pandemics, booms and busts. Fredericksburg and Gillespie County, thanks to its founders and tough and smart people who led it over the years, has become a top location for those seeking big-town amenities, but with the small-town charms.

Fredericksburg is growing, sure, but it’s still filled with natural attractions and Gillespie County has plenty of wide open spaces to breathe in the Hill Country. That’s why generations of family members have stayed and lots of others have decided to invest in their piece of the good life.

Today, we enjoy the fruits of our predecessors’ labors. The Hill Country is a beautiful part of the Lone Star State and we want to keep it that way. Please be mindful of your impact, whether on the highway or at a beautiful natural area like Enchanted Rock or Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park. Like generations of scouts have been taught, “Leave it better than you found it.”

For nearly half a century, GoFredericksburg has been there to highlight this town’s spectacular offerings that draw attention from both visitors and locals.

We also have a companion website at gofredericksburg. com that will highlight all the content included in these pages, plus updates on events, attractions and more.

Like literally millions of visitors over these 46 years, we invite you to take a copy of this magazine back to your town for friends and neighbors who want to visit. Let them know how special it is to GoFredericksburg.
