HILL COUNTRY NATURE SHOW

O ld Tunnel State Park Bat Cave is home to three million bats. The Mexican Free-tailed and cave myotis bats funnel out of the old railroad tunnel located 11 miles south of Fredericksburg on the Old San Antonio Road between May and October.

The 16.1-acre park is open daily from sunrise to sunset to visitors for hiking, bird watching and wildlife viewing. The half-mile nature trail opens daily at sunrise and closes at 5 p.m.

• Cost for an educational bat program on Thursday through Sunday evenings, as well as admission to the lower trail and lower viewing seats, is $5 per person. Observation deck viewing and biological display viewing is free.
