M ade upoftwovisitorareas,oneinJohnsonCity and one in Stonewall, the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park is full of opportunities to learn about the life and legacy of the 36th president with no fees.
LBJ Ranch
The LBJ Ranch, located at 1472 State Park Road 52 in Stonewall, is the birth and death place of the former president.
Visitors can tour the ranch home in their vehicle, with stops along the way including the president’s birthplace, the Johnson family cemetery and the president’s first school.
The Texas White House and Airplane Hangar are temporarily closed to the public while they undergo restorations.
The ranch remains open seven days a week, and free driving permits and maps can be picked up just down the road at the LBJ State Park and Historic Site Visitor Center, 199 Park Road 52, Stonewall. More information on the state park can be found elsewhere in the visitor guide.
Driving permits can be picked up between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Ranch entrance gates are open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the ranch exit gate closes at 5 p.m.
Johnson City
The other half of the park, located in Johnson City, includes the national park visitor center, LBJ’s boyhood home and the Johnson Settlement, where the president’s grandparents settled in the 1860s.
