World-class art might be Fredericksburg’s most understated treasure. While many of Fredericksburg’s visitors are aware of options for shopping, wine and German culture, many are unaware that some of the nation’s most celebrated artists are shown in Fredericksburg galleries. Fredericksburg has a history of fine art, and has been home to highly collected artists such as Charles Beckendorf and G. Harvey. Currently, numerous high-quality fine art galleries exist along Main Street, throughout downtown and within a short driving distance from town. On the first Friday of each month, many of the local art galleries open for special hours for the First Friday Art Walk, where visitors can enjoy refreshments in the galleries, and sometimes view art demonstrations or meet the artists.
